Calculus & Mathematics Counselor

Qingyu can help with MTH 102 through MTH 212 and some upper level courses.

Qingyu is a first-year graduate student in the Economics PhD program at University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  Originally from Hong Kong he moved several times growing up, ending up in Florida were he attended the University of Florida studying mathematics, economics, and political science.  Outside of studies, he enjoys reading, especially history and Japanese literature.

Data Research & Statistics Counselor

Cameron can help with statistics courses, in particular with SDS 192, 201, and 220, and with the software R, Stata, and Excel. He can also help with econometrics (ECO 220 and 240), as well as with the introductory economics courses (ECO 150 and 153).

Lab Report Appointment Guidelines

• Use the links below to make an appointment with the lab writing tutor at least 24 hours ahead of the anticipated need for feedback.
• Send the draft of your lab report at the time you make the appointment—at least 24 hours ahead so they have enough time to read it.
• Allow 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel so another student may have your slot.

Kyra is a junior studying chemistry on the pre-health track. She can help with questions related to pre-labs, post-labs, and lab reports.  Her availability is best on Tuesday and Friday from 1:30-4 p.m.  Schedule an individual appointment through email or Google Calendar.  

Josephine is a junior chemistry major and Latina/o studies minor. She loves organic synthesis and is interested in healthcare. You can email her to set up an individual appointment. Her availability for individual sessions is best on Tuesdays 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Fridays 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

• Ada (she/her) is a junior chemistry major and study of women, gender, and sexuality minor. She has taken the introductory chemistry series and a number of upper level electives, like CHM 321. She loves organic chemistry and is excited to help you with it in any way she can!
• Bella (she/her) is a sophomore Biochemistry and Portuguese-Brazilian Studies double major. She has taken CHM 111, CHM 222, CHM 223 and their respective labs. She loves chemistry and is excited to help answer any course content questions.
• Gwynn (she/her) is a sophomore Biochemistry major and has taken CHM 111, CHM 222, and CHM 223. Organic chemistry is her favorite class of all time and she is so excited to answer your questions!
• Jackie (she/her) is a sophomore Chemistry major on the pre-med track. She has taken CHM 118, 222, 223, and is currently taking CHM 321.
• Josephine (any pronouns) is a junior Chemistry major and Latina/o Studies Minor. They have taken CHM 111, 222, 223, 224 and 321. She loves organic synthesis, both in lab and on paper, and is happy to hear any chemistry question you may have!

• Binah (she/her) is a sophomore CS major. She has taken CSC 120, 210, 250, 231, and 252. She loves the creative side of maths and the technical side of the arts. She can help out with all kinds of questions about coding (Java, Python, and C), theoretical computation, and more!

• Arisha (she/her) is a senior Engineering major and Landscape Studies minor with a passion for urban planning. She can help with any of the core Engineering requirements including MTH 111, 112, 212; and EGR 220, 270, 290. Show up for a chat, she loves to meet new people. 
• Elliot (they/he) is a senior Engineering and Spanish double major. They have completed the engineering core courses along with Strength of Materials. Outside of class, he is one of the captains of Smith’s club ultimate frisbee team, LunaDisc, and enjoys climbing. Feel free to stop by if you have questions or just want a focused space to work on homework!
• Hellen  (she/they) is a senior engineering major who can help with EGR 390, EGR 376, EGR 374, EGR 270, EGR 220, EGR 100, and EGR 110. I love mechanical engineering and fluid mechanics, and I'm happy to answer questions on homework or anything!
• Lilies (they/them) is a senior engineering major concentrating on courses related to civil/environmental engineering and an environmental philosophy minor. They have completed the core courses for the Smith engineering major along with a number of various technical depths. They are currently taking Strength of Materials as well! Feel free to ask them for help with HW, general engineering advice, anything.
   

Math & General Quantitative Support

Daytime Tutoring

Daytime tutoring is held in the Spinelli Center (Seelye Hall 207) for math and general quantitative questions is available from the data counselor, the calculus counselor, and a variety of peer tutors. You can receive help with the quantitative piece of any course, whether it’s finding the intersection of two lines for economics, understanding inverse proportions for a biology lab, using trigonometry for physics, or using logs and exponents for chemistry. We can also help with troubleshooting spreadsheets and using calculators.

Open Office Hours

The linked Google calendar contains the office hours and drop-in sessions of course TAs and instructors. The instructors listed are happy to help students in the courses listed even if the students are not in their section of that particular course.

Evening Tutoring

Evening tutoring is held in the Math Forum, Burton Hall, third floor. Most tutors can help with MTH 111 and MTH 112.
