Biography

Miranda McCarvel is the multilingual writing specialist at the Jacobson Center and teaches composition for bilinguals and non-native speakers of English, along with a variety of linguistics courses. Her research interest is in teaching in higher education with an emphasis on teaching English as a second language and linguistics. Her pedagogical approach centers on using evidence-based instructional practices to create an inclusive, student-led classroom that encourages students to take an active role in their education.

McCarvel has a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and master’s and doctoral degrees in linguistics. Her graduate research focused on Jèrriais, an endangered Romance language.
