Hanif Lawrence

Biography
Hanif is a Jamaican-born music educator, conductor, arranger, and tenor hailing from the nation’s capital, Kingston. Having performed as a soloist, prepared ensembles, conducted, and toured with choirs in the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean, Hanif’s love of choral music has taken him across stages and through classrooms.
Most recently, he led the choral program at Gautier High School in Mississippi and was a featured conductor at the 2024 Mississippi ACDA Summer Conference. Lawrence has worked with students in summer music programs in Oklahoma and also in Michigan. As a vocalist, he has sung with the Natchez Festival of Music, Opera Mississippi, and at many churches including Christ Church Cathedral in Mobile, Alabama. When he is away from the stage or the classroom, you can find Hanif volunteering for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS or singing with a community group.
Hanif holds a bachelor of music in vocal performance from Alcorn State University and a master of music in choral cnducting from the University of Southern Mississippi where he studied in the studio of Dr. Gregory Fuller.
