Biography

Gaby Immerman has been teaching the core Horticulture and Botany courses at Smith for 25 years.  She holds a joint appointment as biology faculty and as the experiential learning specialist at the Botanic Garden of Smith College.  In this capacity she oversees the botanic garden's summer internship and supports an array of other opportunities for students to connect to plants, the land, and environmental stewardship. Beyond teaching, Gaby is actively engaged with numerous regional land and food justice projects, including Grow Food Northampton, the Mill River Greenway, and Hilltown Land Trust, all of which provide students with rich co-curricular learning experiences. Gaby earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College, a certificate in horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and holds a Masters of Science degree in Sustainability from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
