Little Love Stories

Katharine Swibold ’82 felt truly at home at Smith, and now she loves giving back to the college as a volunteer

Smith gave me an inspiring education (Susan Van Dyne and William Oram were my favorite professors), lifelong friends (Albright House was my home at Smith, in all senses of the word, and Albrighters are still among my favorite people in the world), a junior year abroad in Paris (an educational, fun, adventurous, delicious year), and rewarding creative outlets (choir, Glee Club, and Chamber Singers were fun and challenging extracurriculars that balanced out the rigorous class work).

Smith continues to give me friendship, inspiration, and joy through Reunions; attending and working as a class volunteer, I make new friends every Reunion. I’ve also been able to work with Smithies from other classes as a member of the alumnae board and the Friends of the Smith College Libraries Executive Committee. How lucky am I? And my daughter Hannah Becker ’15 also attended Smith, so I get to share that college pride with her!

I tell people that Smith is the gift that keeps on giving. Happy 150th, Smith College!
