One of the best (nonacademic) reasons to go to Smith was being able to live in the same house for four years. Franklin King became my home away from home, more so each year. And the best of all was senior year, when several of us got to stay up in the rooms on the fourth floor! Carolyn Benson ’63, Linda Sato Dalby-Kennedy ’63,Timmie Birge Vitz’63, Carol Spies Yost ’63, and I truly became sisters that year. And the view up there was terrific, too!

I’ll never forget hearing Timmie whistle the “William Tell Overture” when she biked in from class, and we’d go to our windows to yell “Hi!” With intermittent interludes, the closeness cemented that year has happily continued to these days, with us chatting mostly via Zoom.
