Who Counts as a Person? Women, Wombs, and Executive Disorders

On January 20, 2025 the new president issued numerous executive orders including one that purports to defend women from “gender ideology” and another that claims presidential power to revoke the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of citizenship to “All persons born . . .in the United States.” This [lecture] will explore these orders, the relationship between these and other orders and their implications for the constitutional personhood of many groups of people, focusing especially on the half of all humans born with the capacity for pregnancy.
