Resting to Rise for Changemakers: A Collective Pause to Build Power with Benita Jackson
Tuesday, November 10, 2026 3:15-4:45 p.m.
For many of us who long to contribute to social transformation, trying to "be the change" can be exhausting. It is hard to build solidarity across groups when we ourselves feel depleted.
In this Resting to Rise workshop, we explore how even a modest amount of rest can have outsized, liberatory effects on movement building.
Rest can help heal our individual and collective nervous systems, make room to envision the worlds we want, and give us the courage to act and to support one another in taking our next right steps, imperfect and even pleasurable.
Come curious to learn, ready to close your eyes, open to imagining other worlds, and prepared to plant seeds of action.
Dr. Benita Jackson is on a mission to support personal development for social transformation. She is Professor and Chair of Psychology at Smith College, where she directs the Society, Psychology, and Health Laboratory. She is also a co-parent of teen twins, founder of Resting to Rise, and bass ukulele fledgling.
